Church History - The First Pastors
Back to Church History Index
The first part-time pastor was Dr. A. E. Prince. Dr. Prince, who was serving as Principal of the Hawaii Baptist Academy consented to come to Waianae each Sunday and Wednesday evening to preach and to lead in Bible Study. This greatly helped the group toward organization of the church on February 22, 1953, with twenty-nine charter members.

The first full time pastor was Rev. Roy Davis, who came to the church March 1, 1953 from Kaunakakai Baptist Church on Molokai, where he had served for two years as a missionary of the Hawaii Baptist Convention. Under his leadership the membership grew from less than 100 to 185. He served until November 1956, when he left to go to the mainland to continue his studies.

The church went without a pastor for nine months until Rev. Charles Mullins, an appointee of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention came to Waianae from Kahului, Maui on August 4, 1957. He served in Waianae until 1978. During the interim, the pulpit was supplied by various laymen, chaplains and ministers of other churches in the Convention.

Rev. Stanley Shiroma was outstanding pastor during his tenure He retired in March of 2002. Pastor Shiroma led the church through may hard times and built the church on love. Pastor Shiroma felt, "We are in a growing community with opportunities that call for our church to carry the gospel to every home where Christ is not known."
