In September
1957, the church selected a Building, Planning and Survey Committee to recommend
plans for a new church building. Mr. Ralph Buffington of Houston, Texas, was
employed to design the building. Plans were let in February 1959 for bids, and
the contract was signed with K & M Sakamoto Contractors on June 4, 1959. The
ground breaking ceremony was held June 17, 1959 during the annual Bible
conference at Puu Kahea, and the building permit was secured the same day.
Construction began early in July. The church building was constructed with a
gift of $50,000 from the Lottie Moon Offering and other funds borrowed from the
Hawaii Baptist Convention Loan Fund and the First National Bank of Hawaii. The
members raised over $4,000 during construction for the purchase of equipment.
The total cost of fees and furnishings was approximately $90,000. Truly,
"the Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we are glad." |
