The Schools
Wai'anae District currently contains 10 public schools
operated under the State Department of Education
Back to Wai'anae Today Index (D.O.E.). There are seven elementary schools, one intermediate, one combined  (intermediate and High school) and one high school. The capacities of each of the schools and total enrollment as of the 1997 school year are 10,313 enrollment, and capacity 10,615.

Elementary Schools in Wai'anae and Makaha Valleys are large enough to accommodate their 1998 student population. Ma'ili, Lualualei and Nanakuli Elementary schools are near or at capacity. The 1998 student population of Wai'anae High School exceeded its capacity by over 200 students, and Nanakuli Intermediate High School is near its capacity.

Department of Education is currently constructing two new schools in Nanakuli area Nanakuli IV Elementary school is now under construction on the site known as Camp Andrews. The school is intended to replace the existing Nanaikapono Elementary School. The design capacity of the school is planned to be 750 students, with total capacity equal to 1,000 students using a year-round, multitrack schedule. This is less than the current enrollment at Nanaikapono Elementary School.

The second elementary school that the Department of Education plans to construct is called Nanakuli III Elementary School. This school is currently planned to open in the 2004-2015 time period.

Leeward Community College has a satellite facility in Wai'anae that offers Associate Degrees and vocational programs, such as nursing. The current student population is approximately 50 people. The college is located in a single building next to Wai'anae Mall (local shopping center) and contains six classrooms.
